I recently returned from the massive Design & Construction Week expo in Las Vegas. DCW combines the Kitchen & Bath Industry Show with the International Builders Show, both large events by themselves, tremendous together, as many feet will attest! It has become one of Las Vegas’ largest conventions – no small thing, since Las Vegas is one of the country’s largest convention cities.
I’ll be sharing numerous articles in this space over the next couple of months about my favorite products and trends observed from my official show coverage for the San Diego Union-Tribune, Kitchen & Bath Design News, Forbes.com, New Home Source and HomLuv. (Yes, it’s been a hectic few weeks since I got back!)
Here’s one trend I’m delighted to share first with Gold Notes readers: Sexy is making a comeback! After years of chilly stainless and polished nickel, soothing acres of white marble and grey oak, I caught more glimpses of warm, naked sex appeal around the show floor than at past events.
There were glossy emerald tiles, appliances and countertops; vibrant blue and purple cabinets and bathtubs; lustrous gold hardware and faucets; art deco inspirations, and a striking red leather clad refrigerator. Matte black whispered seductively from cabinet handles and bathroom faucets. Frisky patterns frolicked on countertop appliances and even pro style appliances. This was not your Realtor’s design show!
There is a definite design trend toward self-expression, shown in products that let you personalize their colors and designs, perhaps influenced by younger, less conservative Millennial home buyers. What do you think? Would you opt for a color that speaks to your heart, or a neutral that might appeal more to the real estate market?
